The Community of Sant'Egidio expresses its deep concern for the episode that saw the discontinuation of a liturgy in the Maronite church of the city of Kythrea, a few kilometres from the border that divides Cyprus into two.

Religious freedom and the access to places of worship are a key element in the process of pacification and reconciliation of the Cypriot people and the failure to comply with this right can only have negative effects in the delicate negotiations that have sought a lasting and just solution to the crisis for several years.
