The Community of Sant'Egidio welcomes with great participation the complaint by Pope Francis against the “folly of war” launched in the places where thousands of European victims of the first terrible world conflict are buried".
This was stated by president of the Community Marco Impagliazzo, emphasizing in particular the clear condemnation of the production and trade of weapons made by the pope in particularly severe terms.
"The folly of war, the aspiration of peoples to peace, the cynicism of war production - said Impagliazzo - are the issues on which the Community of Sant'Egidio has reflected in recent days during the Prayer for Peace of Antwerp, together with other 300 religious leaders, political leaders, intellectuals, humanists and with thousands of young people from all over the world. The Pope's words encourage us to continue on the path we have taken together with so many women and men of good will who love peace and are committed to overcoming the conflicts that still divide the human family".
"Only by picking up the pain and the tears of the victims of wars, past and present, as Pope Francis said, it is possible to find the impetus to really work for peace". |
