Sant'Egidio Dock inaugurated

In the port of Civitavecchia, a new dock dedicated to the Community emphasizes the vocation of the city to be a welcoming harbour.

On Friday June 21, a new Dock of the Port was inaugurated in Civitavecchia, dedicated to the Community of Sant'Egidio.

The Sant'Egidio Dock wants to mean the vocation of welcoming port of Civitavecchia, and, as pointed out by the President of the Port Authority, Pasqualino Monti, represents the challenge, in a time of economic crisis, to let itself be inspired by "a Community that has made of the great challenges and 'the impossible' his vocation".

The Sant'Egidio Dock is part of a new group of docks for mooring Large Ferries, a major expansion and renovation project, through which the Port of Civitavecchia becomes a point of reference in the Mediterranean, both for the transport of goods and people. The project, funded by the Government and finished with 6 months in advance, is innovative from the points of view of technology and environmental protection.

At the inauguration, attended by the President of the Lazio Region, Zingaretti, and the Infrastructure Minister, Maurizio Lupi, an opening address was delivered by the President of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo.

In his speech, Impagliazzo highlighted the importance, for a port that wants to draw inspiration from the Community of Sant'Egidio, of taking, not only the problems from the poor but developing African and Asian countries, but also the opportunities for growth and trade.

The ribbon cutting was performed by Mons. Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family who, after having blessed the Sant'Egidio Dock, recalled what the vocation is for a port city as Civitavecchia: being a community with the vocation of welcoming the problems of those who arrive in the search of precisely a safe harbour.
