AVERSA: On Saturday, July 27, the Community of Sant'Egidio in Aversa, at the end of the prayer "Dying of Hope", in memory of those who lost their lives trying to reach Europe in search of a new life, organised a lunch for the people present: friends from different countries, many of them were met in the distribution of the meals on the streets on Tuesday evening and Saturday morning and on the roundabouts between Aversa and Giugliano.
At the end… watermelon for everyone! For all those living Ramadan, a takeaway meal was prepared, to be eaten later with the other friends.
NAPOLI: On Saturday afternoon, July 27, the Community of Sant'Egidio in Naples brought together about 250 people in the courtyard of the Basilica of SS. Severino and Sossio. Many Italians, immigrants, the elderly, sick persons, families and guests of the Dormitorio and other reception structures, along with volunteers and friends gathered for the usual “cocomerata”. An afternoon together in free family friendship. A place to talk, laugh and celebrate all that, those who live on the street or in extreme poverty, have not the possibility or freedom to do.
Rice, pizzas, omelets, mozzarella cheese, desserts and watermelon, offered by different restaurateurs and producers (including Mimì alla Ferrovia, un Sorriso Bio, pasticceria Leopoldo, Bibite Giovinetti, Consorzio Tutela della Mozzarella di Bufala Campana), were seasoned by a party with music, songs, a raffle and, finally, a gift for everyone: the shirt of the Community, a sign of friendship and of belonging to a family as large as the world. The friendship that never ends, not even in summer. Throughout August, the travelling dinners will continue in Naples and its province. As a friend said: I'm living a dream and I'm happy!
During the hottest time of the year, the Community of Sant'Egidio renews its appeal for those who live in a condition of poverty and hardship, for those who are homeless, elderly, sick, so that everyone pays attention, if only when they are walking on the road, to those who are in need and so that a safety net grows in their favour.
