The Community of Sant'Egidio has entered the ICG - International Contact Group - which follows the ongoing peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front), with the facilitation of Malaysia, for the solution of the long Mindanao conflict, the south region of the Philippine archipelago, with a Muslim majority.
The Community has followed the developments of the peace talks in Mindanao for several years, and had already taken part in some informal meetings in the negotiations, along with the Muhamamddiyah, a large Indonesian Islamic organisation, with which Sant'Egidio has established a cooperation agreement for initiatives of interreligious dialogue and peace.
After the signing of a general agreement in November 2012, the negotiations have started to deal with the various problems related to the resolution of the conflict, and to the granting of autonomy to the region that will be called Bangsamoro.
Next week the delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio will participate in the meetings that will be held in Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
