EDITORIAL

Everybody could have done what I did for them, but nobody else could have done what they did for me. They are the tramps of the canteen of the Community in Rome. He is a young student from northern Italy. One of many more than one thousand, mostly young Europeans, but not only who spent a summer of solidarity with the Community, serving the poor. These are words which express the feelings of all those who left toward unusual destinations in the past months in order to bring help and friendship: Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Kosovo, or the streets of the big cities, where the tramps use to sleep.

Their reports have accompanied us, also through the sites pages, letting us enjoy the image of a world where the distance between rich and poor really gets shorter and where it is possible to receive good news.
Thus, we have known that, for the first time, a healthy child was born by a HIV-infected mother in Matola, Mozambique, where the therapy against AIDS has started. This was reported to us by the doctor who gave the first, critical cures. In Guinea-Bissau hundreds of people received eyeglasses and ill-fed children were saved. In Albania and Kosovo, where the wounds of the war are still fresh, thousands of children attended the School of Peace. The elderly in Prague received help in the tragic flood. Moreover, in these very days, a convoy of young people, either Italians or immigrants, led by the movement People of Peace, left to Palermo, to take place in the International Meeting for Peace. They have a dream: a world without wars and poverty. They decided that the best way to dream about it is building it together.
