"An unforgettable day" was the day that, last week, the inmates of the prison of Cebongan, in the city of Yogyakarta in Indonesia, lived with the friends of the Community of Sant'Egidio, with a liturgy and lunch perceived by all as “of a family”.
A special moment and eagerly awaited: originally planned for Christmas, lunch was made only in February due to the difficulty in obtaining permission from the authorities of the penitentiary. The fidelity with which the Community of Sant'Egidio in Yogyakarta visits prisoners convinced the authorities, who eventually granted permission to carry out lunch and celebrate the liturgy inside the prison. The event was greeted with joy by the prisoners: "Even if it is February, this was our first Christmas lunch here: thank you!". A lunch that is a sign of friendship and closeness that go beyond the barriers, even those high ones of the prison.
