The Community of Sant'Egidio expresses its condolences to the family and to the Jewish community of Rome for the death of Mario Limentani, a witness of the Shoah. His passionate testimony has been in recent years for many, beginning with the thousands of Roman students he met in schools, a warning to get to know and not to forget the tragedy of the Shoah.
The disappearance of Mario Limentani, like that of many other witnesses that have left us in recent years, draws everyone’s responsibility to perpetrate the memory of so much suffering, so that the horror of the past is not repeated.
With the Community of Sant'Egidio, Mario Limentati has always participated, from the beginning, in the March of Remembrance organised every year by the Community of Sant'Egidio and the Jewish Community of Rome in memory of the deportation of the Roman Jews on 16 October, 1943. This year the March in memory of the deportation of 16 October 1943, will be held on Saturday 18 October 2014.
His story ebbs in the book "La resistenza silenziosa" by Marco Impagliazzo. He also participated in the project "tavoloItalia" with the Art Laboratories of the Community of Sant'Egidio (left in photo). The collective work, made by Anton Boca, plays Italy through significant developments in Italian history, of which he was an interpreter.
