In the general crisis of employment there are areas that have been less affected by the crisis, but the supply and demand do not always meet. This happens especially when companies need specific skills that are scarce in fact in the labor market.
An example of this are the artisan vocation crafts. One of these is the baker (in a search for Italy job, it appears that companies in 27.6% of cases could not hire due to shortage of qualified staff).
In this context, the initiative is part of the course for bakers promoted by the Community of Sant'Egidio and managed with the support of Adecco training (which has financially supported the project), and the training company Solco srl. (who has done the course) and the CNA that has made possible the development of the practical part of the course.
The Community has reported the 24 people who signed up for the course, 19 of whom completed the course of 238 hours and graduated, including fourteen foreigners and five Italians. Foreigners are from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Ukraine, Eritrea, Palestine, Egypt.
These people would not have had the opportunity to attend such a course because there are currently no free courses in Lazio for bakers. For this reason the Community of Sant'Egidio is already preparing a second course in the same manner and with the same promoters which will add to the EBIT (Roman bilateral body formed by trade unions CGIL-CISL-UIL and Confcommercio) for training butchers of which there is a wide demand especially from the large retail food chains.
The idea is always the same: to accompany to the labor market those who are unemployed and in difficult conditions by making them get a highly requested job qualification, trying with Adecco Employment agencies and trade associations to inform the companies that they can get people formed to their needs.
