In recent days, Pakistan has been hit by a heat wave unprecedented, especially in Karachi and in the south, where there are already more than 1,200 victims, mostly elderly. The Community of Sant' Egidio, who visits regularly and supports the poorest older people living in institutions, has set up a solidarity network in Karachi to protect the elderly who live in conditions of extreme fragility, starting a collection of food and beverages to help to deal with the heat, which was attended by many Muslim friends.
In a school in Karachi where about 30 seniors, four of them have died in recent days, while another six are in serious condition. And 'so that the Community has given to every senior a fan battery powered and delivered food supplies. Some families of the Community have also prepared for them the Iassi, a refreshing energy drink yogurt.
